A Second Life: Reusing Your Candle Jar
At BLACKETT & CO., we believe the ritual of enjoying your candle doesn't end when the flame goes out. Once the wax has burned low, your jar still has stories to tell.
Reusing your candle jar is a gentle act of sustainability, a way to honour the full life of the object and to keep beauty and intention flowing long after the last flicker.
Here’s how to give your candle jar a second life
🕯️ When to retire your candle
When just 12mm (or about ½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom, your candle's burn journey has reached its end, continuing to burn past this point can cause the jar to overheat.
🌿 How to gently remove the wax
You’ll need:
- A saucepan
- Water
- Your nearly-finished candle
Steps:
- Place your candle jar in a saucepan filled halfway with water.
- Warm gently over low heat.
- Once the wax has fully melted, carefully remove the jar.
- If you have a wax melt burner, use the remaining wax to enjoy one last aromatic moment.
- After removing the wax, simply wash the jar with warm water and gentle soap. Any soot marks around the rim will lift easily—leaving your jar clean and ready for its next life.
🫙 A few ways to reuse your jar
Your newly cleaned candle jar is now a beautiful, functional vessel—ready for whatever inspires you. Here are a few of our favourite second lives:
-
A home for dried herbs or crystals
-
A cozy tealight holder
-
A pen or paintbrush pot for your creative corner
-
A tiny vase for wildflowers or clippings
- A storage jar for matches, jewelry, or keepsakes
🌙 A practice in mindful reuse
Reusing your candle jar is more than a creative project—it’s an extension of the ritual. A way to slow down, reduce waste, and see value in what remains.
With each reuse, you carry the memory of past moments forward. And in doing so, you make space for new ones to unfold—gently and intentionally.
